What were once considered derogatory and rude terms, it’s never been as cool as it is now to be a nerd or a geek. As technology has advanced, the Internet has given nerds and geeks a common place to come together and voice their passion for comics, video games, cosplay and more. And as this has been become more socially acceptable, it now appears that the inner geek in everyone has begun to shine. The Internet also helped promote some of the biggest conventions and events that allow geeks to unite in person to express their passion. This list will take a look at some of the coolest places to be a geek and soak in your passion for super heroes, action figures and more.

Any geek obviously knows of Comic-Con. Instead of building up to with other entries on this list, it’s probably just best to mention it at the beginning. Comic-Con is the mecca of all comic conventions and each year it pulls in thousands of visitors to each of its locations. Comic-Con San Diego is one of the most anticipated and popular events throughout the nation. It’s the best place to see nearly every sort of nerdy and geek media you could imagine. From video games and action figures, to movies and comics, Comic-Con San Diego has it all. This even is also a great chance to see all of your favorite film super heroes in real life, as the convention brings in celebrities and actors from popular action hero movies.

While Comic-Con San Diego is typically held in the summer months, Comic-Con New York is held later in the year and is another opportunity for geeks to come together in the Big Apple. You can expect nothing to be held back from one of the greatest geek conventions, in one of the greatest cities in the world.

WonderCon
Another great option for comic book lovers is WonderCon, held in Anaheim, California. This event is a bit less hectic than Comic-Con, but is still perfect for hardcore geeks. Attending WonderCon allows you to see anime screenings and movies, as well as a load of cosplay costumes of all of your favorite super heroes.

As of the last few years, an increasingly popular convention has been PAX Prime. This convention, which has shows in Seattle and Boston, is a three-day festival of nearly any game you could imagine. While E3 focuses on new game releases, PAX, which stands for Penny Arcade Expo, offers games that are new and old alike. PAX Prime in Seattle is also known especially for their emphasis on tabletop gaming as well. Considering the amount of video-game industry players that also attend PAX, it is a must-see for any geek.

Okay, so not all geeks are Apple fans. But we figured we’d add Apple WWDC to the list as well, maybe not for geeks but more for fanboys of Apple products. Whether you like Apple or not, each year thousands of people attend WWDC and millions of people around the world watch the live stream, to see what new innovations Apple is introducing into their product lines. Their smartphones, tablets, and operating systems are extremely popular right now and what they do, in turn, influences a lot of the rest of the industry. Even if you don’t love Apple, if you consider yourself a true geek, Apple WWDC is a must see.

Luckily, as Geek-dom continues to grow, so does the opportunity to dust off your favorite cosplay costume and attend conventions and events. Never before has it been as easy, or as fun, to join together with likeminded people to sink back into the way you felt as a child as you imagined how awesome it would be to be your favorite super hero or video game character. Any of the events on this list will allow you to do just that while meeting other geeks just like you.
